The content and degree of decentralization in Algeria is largely influenced by the nature of the state.
This nature being the product of certain structuring and determining elements.
The objective of this work is to show the weight of the rentier state and the consequences hindering the decentralization process.
This does not seem to be specific to all unitary states; it is atypical for the Algerian case in view of the rentier nature of the state and the economy but also of all the behaviors that result from it (patronage, monopoly of the central state on local taxation, etc.).

Le contenu et le degré de la décentralisation en Algérie se trouvent largement influencés par la nature de l'Etat.
Cette nature étant le produit de certains éléments structurant et déterminants.
L'objectif de ce travail est de montrer le poids de l'Etat rentier et les conséquences entravant le processus de décentralisation.
Celle-ci ne semble pas être le propre de tous les Etats unitaires, elle est atypique pour le cas algérien au vu du caractère rentier de l'Etat et de l'économie mais aussi de tous les comportements qui en découlent (clientélismes, monopole de l'Etat central sur la fiscalité locale, etc.
).
