Abstract EN

This study aims at searching for the genesis of the contextual theory – a milestone topic in the modern linguistic studies—for its importance in seizing the essence of meanings which hides deep beneath the surface structure of the language.

It also goes beyond the meaning, that simply relates the signifier to the signified, to make it more accurate and clearer by exploring the words during speech act and the roles they play in the different placements in the structure.

Moreover, this study focuses on the important contributions of ancient Arabic rhetoric, which is characterized by its paramount use of context, to the study of various linguistic, rhetoric, and semantic issues.

It is worth mentioning that the interest in semantic and contextual issues is one of the pillars of the ancient Arabic rhetoric lesson which drew upon the verbal and non-verbal connections to serve the meanin.
