A study of cell-phone usage by agricultural extension workers in extension work in Beheira governorate

Abstract EN

The goal of this study is to know more about the reality of cell-phone usage by workers of agricultural extension in the Bahira Governorate.

Some characteristics, such as personal, social, economic, and communication.

Besides, they should know the obstacles they face when using cellphones in agricultural extension.

The research was carried out in Beheira Governorate and selected a random sample of around 150 workers, and they resampled 60% from all the workers in Agricultural Extension in Beheira Governorate.

Meanwhile, the data collected by personal interviews using a special explainer form has been made for that purpose.

Furthermore, a lot of statics methods have been used which are suitable for data collection and study's goal and percentages, repetition, arithmetic mean for description and comparing between the researchers.

The research results show that: The research was carried out in Beheira Governorate and selected a random sample of around 150 workers, and they resample about 60% from all the workers of agricultural extension in Beheira Governorate.

About 66% of researchers who more than (53 years old) around 60% of them had bachelor of agricultural science.

More than half of them (59.3%) were specialized in agricultural extension also, the study shows more than (63.3%) of them have around 17 years’ experience in agricultural extension.

Concerning who had training programs courses in the same study our data showed that around (53.3%) had 12 training courses or more while, 54% of them hadn’t any training about how to use cellphone programs in agricultural extension.The sources they used to get agricultural information according to the arithmetic mean from their own perspective were the following -: Internet, television agricultural talk show program, training programs in information technology and communication, then agricultural researching centers the data were 2.32 Points, 2.26 Points, 2.23 Points, 2.18 Points respectively according arithmetic mean.

-The study sheds the light on the most workers in agricultural extension who were using high and medium usage for cellphone in the agricultural extension work -The results showed that the most important issues asked by farmers to the people who work in the field of agricultural extension are: the best process and agricultural recommendations, diagnosis and curing of agricultural pests and veterinary diseases, kinds of improved seeds in addition to their stores, irrigation rates for agricultural crops, and weather conditions to determine the best time for agricultural production.

-It has been shown that one of the most important obstacles they face in using cellphones in agricultural extension, according to arithmetic mean, were: the cost of connecting the internet; internet services in administrations and agricultural extension Centers are not available, Also, specialized training programs for using mobile phones are not available for workers in agricultural extension.

Also, budget for administration and agricultural extension centers is not available.
