Abstract EN

This study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of using the flipped classroom strategy in improving English creative writing skills among female second-grade secondary school students.

An quasi-experimental design and was employed to test the hypotheses.

The study sample comprised (52) second grade secondary school female students who were randomly chosen from public schools in Makkah.

They were divided into two equivalent groups: experimental and control, each group comprised (26) students.

The experimental group studied using the flipped classroom strategy, whereas the control group studied using the conventional method.

The researcher developed a teacher's guide to explain the steps of using and applying the flipped classroom strategy in teaching creative writing skills, along with educational video clips for assigned lessons, and a test for creative writing skills in English language.

The validity and reliability of the test were verified.

A rubric for the test and an attitude scale were also prepared.

The validity and reliability of both the rubric and the scale were verified.

The rubric was applied in scoring the writing test.

The attitude scale was administrated to the experimental group only after studying using this strategy.

After processing the collected data, the results were as follow: the female students in the experimental group outperformed their counterparts in the control group with regard to every sub-skill of the creative writing skill in English language (fluency, flexibility, originality, elaboration) and with regard to the skill as a whole.

The results also revealed that there were positive attitudes among female students in the experimental group towards learning creative writing skills using the flipped classroom strategy.

There was also a statistically significant positive correlation between the experimental group's mean scores on the attitudes scale and their mean scores on the English creative writing skills test.

In light of these results, the researcher made the some recommendations.
