Abstract EN

"Pearls (valuable words) on The inflection of the initial verses of the Holy Quran's chapters" or " Al Dorrar Fi E'rab Awa'el AlSowar" is mainly composed of explanations of some poetic verses that he wrote for providing inflection for the initial verses of the Holy Quran's chapters.

In his book, Al Segai discussed also many topics in grammar, syntax, and exegesis.

The author relied heavily on Al Baydawi's explanations and margins such as that of Al Shehab.

Al Sega'i relied also on some books in Quran sciences such as Al Seyouti's "Mastering the Holy Quran sciences" or "Al Etqan Fi 'Ouloum Al quran".

As for the methodology adopted by Al Sega'I, he offers a part of the poetic verse in question, and then he explains it in detail, clarifying the meaning of each letter and word therein.

When there is any counter – argument concerning a certain poetic verse, the author refutes it and explains the intended meaning of this poetic verse as a whole, or of the part in question.

Al Sega'i has managed to achieve the aspired goals and purposes of his book, as he explains the meaning of Al Hourouf Al Moqatta'a or "the disjoined letters" that occur at the beginnings of some chapters of the Holy Quran, along with citing the various opinions of scholars in this regard.

He distinguishes also between the referentional and connotative meanings of these letters.

Moreover, he discusses the issue of the inflection of these letters, indicating that scholars have different opinions in this regard, as some of them believe that these letters are inflected, while the other maintain that they are not inflected and that they have fixed forms.

On the other hand, Al Sega'I sheds light on the different opinions of scholars as to whether these letters are Quranic verses on their own or not.

Finally, Al Sega'I distinguishes between the interpretation and explanation, and the settled issues and the unsettled ones, along with highlighting the various opinions of scholars in this regard.

He also introduces new pieces of information as to the way of writing these letters, and finishes his book with outlining the unique characteristics of these letters.
