The comprehensive feature of the United Nations convention on the law of the sea would decline because of issues emerged following its adoption.

In this context, issues addressed within environmental security have aggravated recently, such as climate change leading to polar melting and causing sea level rise that could lead to the disappearance of some vulnerable territories.

As a result, the assessment of the ability of the institutions set forth in the Convention becomes a necessity induced by the need to counter the considered threats and to provide possible solutions to reduce or prevent imminent dangers.
