A question that always comes to mind regarding how the ancient peoples of both the Greek and Roman civilizations dealt with sea, especially considering it completely surrounds them from all sides.

Were they afraid to sail it or not, have they sanctified for it? Have they swum in it, learned different kinds of swimming and diving artsand, or not? And if yes, have they been practicing such activities as sport like the other Olympic Games, or just as a hobby.

Have they considerd it as a profession of fishing and sponging? In this research, I will attempt to unveil one of the ancient sports that were known in all civilizations of the ancient world, whether the ancient Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan and Roman worlds, that is conducted by focusing on practicing them in the Greek civilization although it has never been presented as one of the Olympic Games.

The study also sheds the light on the different techniques of swimming observed in the Greek arts.

In addition, the study reviews some examples of the Greeks' interest in swimming through the tools they used in teaching or practicing swimming, as well as the establishment of private swimming pools to practice this sport.
