Plato presents a number of theories about the nature of poetry and poets and their role in society, and Plato's attack on poets and his criticism of their negative role in society was one of the most important reasons for some researchers to misinterpret Plato's views on poetry and poets, this research, tries to trace what Plato wrote about poetry, its functional aspects, the role of a true poet in his society, and the difference between a poet and a philosopher, in order to reach the truth of what Plato wrote about the functional aspects of poetry and the role of poets through the theory of inspiration and Plato's perception of the positive role of poets.

The researcher used the inductive analytical method in studying the opinions and ideas of Plato, which is based on analyzing the basic sources, and arriving, through the study of particles, to the overall conclusion related to the research hypothesis.
