Abstract EN

This study addressed the topic of pre-Islamic poetry in the critical measures of Ibn Qotaiba by investigating his critical opinions about pre-Islamic poetry in the light of the critical issues that he addressed, such as pronunciation and meaning, poem's introduction, poetic theft, habit and indulgence as well as attempting to demonstrate his critical position of pre-Islamic poetry based on these critical issues through which he dealt with the models of pre-Islamic poetry mentioned in his books, particularly the book of "poetry and poets" in which he translated for pre-Islamic poets and others.

The research also addressed the role of Ibn Qotaiba in establishing critical theories through the critical issues that he addressed based on a deduction for his critical opinions in some pre-Islamic poetic models included in his book "poetry and poets".

The researchers suggested that Ibn Qotaiba had a fair position towards pre-Islamic poetry without fanaticism to the old over thenew.

Ibn Qotaiba demonstrated the position of pre-Islamic poetry via the previous critical issues, he also pointed to the aspects of shame, exaggeration and raid in the pre-Islamic poetry.

The study revealed that Ibn Qotaiba had an individuality in some critical terms and concepts which represented a basis for the establishment of Arabic critical theories from which the following ancient critics and narrators utilized.
