, It is known that Republic of Venice was built in shallow waters or in swamps, and the nature of this site enabled it to be distinct and unique whether from Where it is geographically located, or in terms of region's richness in salt, that substance necessary for life and which was the only source of the Venetian's wealth and a symbol of their commercial and economic influence.

But the problem at issue is how this distinguished geographical location contributed to directing the Venetian economy to the production and trade of salt? This contribution will try to clarify the role of this natural center in the formation of the salt basins, and how Venice was able to build its economy in general and its trade in particular on salt
