Abstract EN

This study adopts a stylistic-semantic approach in the analysis of the aesthetic components and the linguistic effectiveness of the poem entitled Al-Kahf (The Cave) by Khalil Hawi.

The study tries to identify how these components reveal the poet’s attitude regarding his present status as exemplified in the title’s semiotic connotations and the phonetic, structural and semantic elements employed in the poem.

The study indicates that there exists a relation between the poet’s perception of death and resurrection and how he chooses the title of the poem and the poem’s phonetic structure; a relation that is also noted in the poet’s choice of the sentences, the verbs and the semantic connotations that make up the poem.

This presentation has resulted in the production of a poetic experience that clearly expresses the poet’s psychological crisis, his stance regarding reality, his tragic vision and his persistent desire to resurrect his present.
