(The present study aims at investigating The Effect of a Guidance Program with Rational - Emotional Approach on the development of Self-determination among Preparatory School Students)In order to achieve the objective of the study and its hypotheses, the researcher used experimental design (design of the experimental and control groups with pretest and posttest for both groups).
The current study was limited to the students of the preparatory stage in the morning schools and for males only in the district of Baquba of the Directorate General of Diyala Education for the academic year 2017/2018.
community consists of (7638) preparatory students.
The research consisted of (20) students of the fifth preparatory class from the Central Preparatory School.
The students were selected from those who obtained grades below the mean in the self-determination scale, (10) students of the experimental group and (10) students of the control group.
Equivalence was made in the following variables (grades obtained by the self-determination scale, father's attainment, mother's attainment, income, age by months).
In order to identify the level of self-determination, the researcher built two tools: 1.
Construction of the self-determination scale according to Deci & Ryan(1985).
The sample of the construction of the scale consisted of (400) students from the fourth and fifth grades, and the scale is of (46) items in its preliminary form.

(81, 0) and thus became the measure in its final form consists of (40) items.2.
The guidance program was conducted in a rational and emotional manner, where the number of sessions of the orientation program was 12 sessions for two sessions per week.
After the implementation of the extension program, the scale was applied to the two groups (posttest).
