when Ian Smith, Prime Minister of Rhodesia, declared a Unilateral Independence from Britain on November 15, 1965, He faced several difficult economic sanctions as a result and which was imposed by the United Nations in 1966, however he did not care about these imposed sanctions and accompanied boycott that due to the provided support from South Africa which he considered an economic partner and replacement for of Britain, while he used its ports to import and export goods under the guise of South Africa by using a series of intermediaries, arrangements and forging certificates of origin.

South Africa also supplied Rhodesia with its needed oil supply in quantities that were sufficient to reduce the impact of the oil sanctions.

Over time, the sanctions no longer constituted a threat but rather became routine.
