Abstract EN

The aim of this study aimed to follow the forms of the presence of the city narratively in the novel “Masra al-Gharaniq in the cities of al-Aqeeq” by the Saudi novelist Omaima al-Khamis, based on a psychological hypothesis that considers these cities as the space, which contains and forms the events of the novel with its central structure in the formation of the major narrative structure that we cannot imagine without studying this side sociologically, as a central component that represents an active role in the formal structure and objectivity of this novel, which is influenced by (travel literature) in some of its characteristics.

The study relies on a semiotic-structural approach, according to two axes, the first of which addresses the physical space of a city, The second axis deals with the moral space of the city and the invisible descriptions.

The study concluded that the texts of travel literature-especially in contemporary fiction-are one of the most important narrative arts whose origins, deep roots in our Arabic literature, as well as their purely literary value, constitute similar historical, geographical and ethnographic documents on the countries through which the travelers/heroes of the novel travel; this art aims mainly to present a description and images for the cities in which the narrator/traveller travels through them, by the way of juxtaposition and continuity that do not spread in the narrative structure.

The study recommends that more studies be considered in the narrative structure of the texts of travel literature texts, especially contemporary narrative texts, should be further investigated for their differences that distinguish them from others in narrative structure.
