After its adoption of the single currency, the European Union faced many difficulties, mainly due to the weak coordination effectiveness with regard to the overall policies of the member states, especially in cases of economic instability caused by external shocks.

Since 2008, the severity of these shocks has increased and the public authorities 'ability to cope with them has decreased.

The ence of a clear and comprehensive view of European governments and monetary officials who took measures later turned out to be insufficient compared to the strength of the shock and the severity of the crisis.

This paper attempts to highlight the limitations of the coordination process within the European Union, which has become a major source of instability for this region, and shows the imbalances in the euro area through the sovereign debt crisis.
