English Abstract

The Mesopotamian civilization is one of the oldest human civilizations that appeared on the surface of the earth, and it was, is and will remain renewed throughout the ages.

The study area is one of the most important archaeological landmarks in Dhi Qar Governorate, Iraq and even the world.

It witnessed the birth of the first legislation in the world, the Ormu Law (2112-2095 BC).

The research problem is represented by a question? Does the city of Ur have the elements to establish an ancient tourist city? What are these ingredients? How did the Pope's visit contribute to strengthening this aspect? The research aims to show the components of sustainable tourism development in the archaeological city of Ur, by highlighting the history of this site, which dates back to multiple historical eras, and the researcher tries to clarify those components according to a sustainable development vision that tries to highlight the ways to invest them.

Tourism elements qualify it to be one of the important tourist areas at the Arab, regional and global level, and this city has been placed within the circle of attention of the international community, after the visit of the Pope, who is the most important figure in the world as he is the head of the Vatican state, the bishop of Rome and the head of the Catholic Church, and according to the Catholic beliefs, the successor of St.

He has administrative and educational authority over the universal Church, and the authority of the Pope is higher than that of the US President himself.

It was found through the research that there are natural ingredients that qualify the city to be a model for the ancient tourist city, and it is possible that the historical legacy of this city can be used to establish museums.
