Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the requirements, namely cognitive, organizational, structural, administrative, technical, and humanistic needed for the transformation of Saudi universities into academic capitalism to achieve global competitiveness capacity.

Moreover, it aimed to identify the obstacles limiting the transformation of these Saudi universities to the academic capitalism.

It also sought to reveal whether there are significant differences among faculty members at the Saudi universities in accordance with the realization of the needed requirements for the transformation of Saudi universities to academic capitalism due to university, academic rank, experience, gender, nationality, and specialization.

The study used the descriptive survey approach.

The questionnaire, as the main study instrument, was used to collect data.

Population of the study consisted of all faculty members who were all Ph.

D holders of varied academic ranks at King Saud University, King Abdulaziz University and Umm Al-Qura University.

The sample, on the other hand consisted of (437) faculty members who were all chosen via the random clustering sampling technique.

Analysis of gathered data revealed a set of results, the most prominent of which are, the strong agreement of participants in the study sample on the requirements needed for the transformation of Saudi universities into academic capitalism namely, cognitive, organizational, structural, administrative, technical, and humanistic.

The field of the humanistic requirements was in the first rank, followed by the fields of the administrative and technical requirements.

The fields of cognitive requirements was in the fourth place, while the fields of organizational and structural requirements were in the fifth and sixth ranks respectively.

Results also showed that agreement of participants on the obstacles limiting the transformation of Saudi universities into the academic capitalism was in the agree degree.
