Abstract EN

Objective : The aim of this study was to compare the sealing ability of four dentine bonding systems : Denthesive bond, Pertac Universal Bond, Prisma Universal Bond 3 and Scotchbond Multipurpose, in conjunction with Silux Plus composite resin fdling material (3M).

Methods : Sixty class V light cured composite restorations divided into four equal experimental groups were placed at the cemento-enamel junction of the buccal surfaces of extracted human third molars.

Specimens were subjected to 250 continuous thermocycles between 5-55" C, coated except for the restoration and 1mm around, immersed in 1% methylene blue, sectioned in buccolingual direction, and observed under the light microscope to assess the degree of microleakage.

Results : None of the bonding systems used in this study completely resisted microleakage at both the occlusal , and the gingival margins.

Only Pertac Universal Bond completely eliminated the microleakage at the enamel margins, while Scotchbond Multipurpose was found to be the best material in reducing marginal leakage at the gingival margins.

Conclusion : Scotchbond Multipurpose may be a superior dentine-bonding system for some applications, compared to the other materials tested in this study.
