Abstract EN

The study aimed at analysing and measuring the effect of trade openness and the economic conditions of the most important trading partners on the economic growth of Saudi Arabia during the period 1980 - 2015.

The study analysed the nature of the relationship between a number of variables and economic growth in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia according to the theoretical basis and economic theory.

The study consists of two aspects, the analytical side of the economic performance of the foreign trade sector in the Kingdom with the top five trading partners during selected periods.

The other side is the econometric analysis of the relationship using the ARDL model to examine whether there is a cointegration relationship between the variables and its stability.

The model consists of five variables including the degree of trade openness of the Kingdom as well as the GDP growth rates of the three main trading partners of the Kingdom (USA, China, and Japan).

The study found that the economic conditions of the Kingdom's trading partners represented by GDP growth rates contribute to the interpretation of a large percentage of the change in the economic growth of Saudi Arabia.

The relationship is stable in the long term.

The study would confirmed the importance role that played by the Chinese economy, as one of the most important trading partner with Saudi Arabia, recently.

The results also showed a strong causality between the research variables in the short run
