Abstract EN

This paper aims to examine the patterns of the masque in contemporary Palestinian poetry through a critical approach that investigates the poetic production of more than seventeen Palestinian poets, through individual poetic works, or the oeuvre where possible and that explores the technique of the masque as one manifestation of modernism in the contemporary Palestinian poetry.

Employing descriptive analysis, the research identifies three patterns of the masque which are a) the total pattern; b) the partial pattern; c) the compound pattern.

Through these patterns of the masque, poets tried to depict the depth and originality of their artistic experience and to invest the symbolic energy residing in the collective consciousness of the masked historical figures invoked in the poems in order to express the contemporary Palestinian poet’s experience that cuts across with human pain in history
