Abstract EN

This research deals with seven factors of linguistic growth and Sibawayh’s stance on them, the first of which is Substitution, which is one of the crucial factors that help preserve our Arabic language.

Substitution is a phenomena that can be seen in Arabic.

Sibawayh dedicated two chapters on Substitution, one to Arabic, and another to Persian.

Sibway is among the scholars that recognized Substitution in Arabic.

As for the second factor, it is Methathesis.

It has two types in Arabic; standard and arbitrary.

Sibawayh denied the first, and confirmed the second is present in Arabic.

As for Blending - the third factor - Sebawaih referred to it explicitly without naming it, and gave examples on it.

However, he did not use it extensively.

Sebwayh commented on the fourth factor - Derivation - briefly when compared to the commentary of the scholars who after him.

Sebawaih was one of the first grammarians to dwell on Arabization (The Fifth Factor).

Regarding his stance on the Analogy, he approved it according to what the Arabs spoke of the (maf'ala) form.

As for the seventh and final factor, which is Improvisation, nouns are either transmitted or improvised.

Sebueh believes that all the nouns are transmitted except for the word of Majesty (Allah), which is improvised according to some of his commentary.
