Abstract EN

Translation.

is one of the most.

prominent aspects of applied linguistics.

Definitely, It is comprised into two essential types; oral and written translation.

Indeed, oral translation is called interpretation or interpreting.

Consecutive.

interpretation (henceforth CI) is one of the important types of interpretation, which means rendering and communicating a message from the source language (henceforth, SL) into the target language (henceforth, TL), as soon as a speaker ends his/her meaningful sentence.

This means that an interpreter listens comprehensively to the SL till a speaker's sentence ends to declare the time of interpreting a message to the TL communicatively.

In this sense, one can say that written translation is easier than the oral one since the former has enough time to think and choose appropriate words and expressions, while the latter has not enough time for that thinking, because s/he interprets consecutively in a short analysis time.

Definitely, CI has many strategies during its rendering from the SL into the TL.

The study tries to shed light on one of the powerful strategies of CI, it is code-switching.

The aim of the study is two-folded; the first is the perspective of interpreters on using code-switching as a strategy of CI, while the second is the influence of code-switching in CI.

The aim of the study may be fulfiled through answering the following research questions: 1.

To what extent do consecutive interpreters satisfy with the importance of using code-switching as a strategy of CI? 2.

Does using of code-switching through CI have a positive role on communicating a message from the SL into the TL accurately? Methodologically, the study is based on two tools to fulfil the aims of the study; the focus group of interview with ten professional consecutive interpreters is the first tool for collecting the intended data.

Those ten interpreters are specialised in CI between English and Kurdish and vice versa in Kurdistan Region.

The second tool is represented in three transcripts, three recording speeches of three consecutive interpreters during their actual interpreting.

The collected data has been analysed.

It is concluded that the strategy of code-switching is utilised actually in CI between English and Kurdish, and it has a positive influence on communicating a message.

from the SL.

into the TL.

accurately.

Moreover, only 4% of the professional and nonprofessional interpreters use this strategy.

Besides, the results indicate that there is no significant difference between interpreters concerning using code-switching.

All of them confirm that CI is one of the essential strategies of CI.
