The significance of deixis in the theatre of the absurd with special reference to Samuel Beckett’s waiting for godot : a pragmatic study

There are some very common words in our language that cannot be understood at all if we do not know their situational context.

These are technically known as deixis.

Words are deictic if their semantic meaning is fixed but their denotational meaning varies depending on speakers, addressees, time and/or place.

This study involves two parts: a theoretical background and a practical part.

The theoretical background consists of a number of sections illustrating the concept of deixis and the Theatre of the rd.

The practical part involves the analysis of deixis found in Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot and a discussion of the data analysis.
