This research paper, which we are presenting, seeks to participate in the first international scientific conference: the great questions and the stakes of reality: reading in the Islamic perspective.

it seeks to return to the sources of the Arab prose heritage to examine its narrative achievement, in line with the proposed second axis: literature in Islamic civilization: its nature, patterns, transformations, due to the rich gender diversity preserved by the ancient Arabic prose code, and the blending of narration with multiple discursive patterns and expressive types.

we have decided to limit the consideration to one book that represents this formative feature based on diversity and richness, which is the book of enjoyment and sociability by Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi.

we will also try to address the naturalization of this narrative book, which sparked a wide debate among critics, based on the basic premise that Abu al-Wafa al-Muhandis accepted the monotheistic proposal to compile the “oral material” and the dialogues that took place between him and minister al-Buwaihi ibn Saadan and transforming all of this into a message, and then the book of enjoyment and sociability in its entirety is a letter written by Abu Hayyan to his friend Abu al-Wafa in which he tells the details of the events that took place in the minister’s council in a narrative form.

it is noticeable that the researchers who considered the book as affair, but issued a naturalization of the book as an “oral material.” as for the book, in its final form; that is, after moving from the oral stage to the writing stage, a letter formulated by al-Tawhidi specifically formulated to respond to the criteria and controls set by Abu al-Wafa’.
