Educational Research in Mathematics Education: A Futurism Vision In the light of the contemporary global trends The Present research aimed to identify and learn about the trends of mathematics education research at the local and global levels in order to determine the nature of the research and its domain of interest; and then use the quantitative and qualitative analysis of results in proposing future features for research in mathematics education; The problem of research has been determined into three main questions are: What are the local research trends in mathematics education? What are the current global research trends in mathematics education? What is the proposed futurism vision for research in mathematics education? The research was mainly based on the Quantitative Content Analysis method as one of the main tools that can be used in data collection, building inferences related to the nature of the research problem and answering its questions.
The research sample included titles and summaries of a number of Arab and foreign researches and studies, in the Period (2010 to 2017); these studies were analyzed according to three main dimensions: the type of research, the educational stage, and the domain of interest.
The results of the research indicated that there is a large gap between Arab and foreign researches and studies regarding the proportions of the types of research, the results also show that the representation ratios of the types of Arab studies and researches do not reflect the hierarchical logic of their foreign counterparts.
Hence, the proposed framework represents an attempt to close this gap, and to introduce the new research directions in mathematics education in the future.
