Abstract EN
This paper discusses the critical nature of linguistics courses, and shows how they are usually sacrificed, especially in times of crisis, which results in passive learning.
The paper highlights the fact that great potential is wasted when language, which is acquired largely through exposure, experience, and problem-solving strategies employed by language learners, is studied through instructor-directed lectures.
It also presents some of the teaching approaches known for being effective in promoting active learning in general.
It then provides a step-by-step application of two of the advocated teaching approaches as applied to linguistics courses.
Next, the paper discusses the recommended procedure for the application of these effective teaching methods during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
The discussion also provides conceptual justification for advocating these active learning approaches.
