Since antiquity, there have been many attempts to legalise authoritarian regimes.

As such, contemporary eastern authoritarian regimes, led by China, seek to present themselves as a reasonable alternative to social democratic regimes.

In this research paper, the author refutes these theses through a critical review of Mhamed Jebroun’s “The Crisis of Liberal Democracy”, affirming that the social democratic regime remains the ideal system to endogenise local idiosyncrasies and the utopia of “meritocracy”
