Abstract EN
Objectives : To present our experience in the management of symptomatic nephroptosis, by retroperitoneoscopy, and to discuss the indications, surgical technique, and the outcome of this new method of management Methods : During the period January 1997 -August 1999, a total of 11 patients' with symptomatic nephroptosis were seen in the urology department at King Hussein Medical Center (KHMC).
These patients were managed by retroperitoneoscopy.
The records of these patients were retrospectively reviewed, with respect to the duration of this surgical procedure, hospital stay, postoperative analgesia consumption, complications and outcome.
Patients were followed-up three times monthly, through patient interview, ultrasound and excretory urography.
Results : The operation was carried out on patients, as planned, without intra- or postoperative complications.
The mean operative time was 45 minutes.
Analgesia was sparingly administered and hospital stay was ' shorter than with open surgery.
There was no recurrence regarding both the symptoms and the kidney ptosis.
Conclusions : Retroperitoneoscopic nephropexy is a minimally invasive procedure for symptomatic nephroptotic patients, with excellent patient's convenience and results.
