Abstract EN

Since the appearance of the first cases of corona virus, the novel covid-19 in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and its change from a local disease in China to a disease classified by the World Health Organization as a pandemic after its spread globally, there were efforts to make people aware of its transmission and prevention and how to deal with those infected to stop the spreading of the virus.

These efforts are not less important than the scientific efforts to reach vaccination and treatment.

The efforts exerted to face the pandemic have proved so far that the countries that have awareness of pandemic danger and committed to procedure approved by the ministries of health, succeeded in being the least affected.

By the declaration of Sudanese Ministry of Health in 2020 of registering the first case of corona virus, Covid-19, the standby started by the authorities and specialized parties to face the spread of the corona virus by all means.

Awareness initiatives and efforts began.

This study aimed at enumerating and analyzing the trends of the public opinions about the efforts of awareness with Corona virus pandemic in Gezira state in the centre of the Republic of Sudan.

The study relied on the survey methodology.

An electronic format was approved and distributed to 150 people from all the seven localities of Gezira state: Wad Medani Greater Locality, Eastern Gezira Locality, Um Alqora Locality, Al Kamleen Locality, Hasahesa Locality, Mangil Locality, 24 Qorashi Locality and Southern Gezira Locality.

The results showed that 60% of the respondents said that efforts were successful, 4.7% very successful.

The results showed that 61.3% of the sample members that corona awareness efforts helped them in preventing the infection, 67.3% of the sample members stated that awareness of corona virus had the economic impact in the livelihood of humans in Gezira, 55.3% of them see that the concentration should be in disseminating protection methods and specifying hospitals that are equipped for treatment, and 39% see that awareness effort were only repetition of the same information.

The study recommended that Ministry of Health in Gezira state should have more effective role in awareness through social media and specify an official account on Twitter to publish all developments relating to corona virus and receive enquires of citizens.
