The Yemeni islands occupy an important geographical, historical, economic and strategic location, by their location control the global shipping lines in the past and present.

Perim Island (Mayyun) is one of the most important Yemeni islands that, due to its important strategic location, occupied a significant position in the international politics as well as in literature of foreign historians and travelers, since the beginning of journeys of geographical discoveries of the world by West-European to the present time.

Its strategic and historical importance has emerged at the beginning of the British-French conflict over strategic locations in the Red Sea.

The year of 1799 is a turning point in history of this island as it is the year at which Britain occupied the island, fearing that it would be occupied by its rival, France, which was in a feverish race with Britain over the possession of colonies in the East.

This study follows the descriptive analytical method and historical narration based on the various documents, sources and the references.

The study answered the questions of research problem, reached a number of results which are summarized in the following! 1.

The vital location of the island and its strategic importance for the red sea and the surrounding countries, as it divides the strait of Bab-el-Mandeb into two parts.

2.

The goals behind Britain’s move towards Prim Island, which are summarized in the most important reason of the international conflict, at the time, on the strategic locations in the Red sea in an attempt to own one of these locations for the purpose of control the strait of Bab El- Mandab economically and politically.

3.

After being occupied, Britain has established many military sites, facilities, buildings and various fortifications there.

France’s reaction on that occupation.

5.

Other external attempts to interfere in the island by establishing military bases including the attempts of the Zionist entity.

The study concluded a number of recommendations that were included with the conclusion of the research.
