This study concerns on Libyan – Egyptian relations from 1969-1989, The paper is divided into phases, each characterised by the particular aspects that affected Libyan-Egyptian relations, the first period of time covered 1969-1973,the second phase examines the relations between Libyan and Egypt during 1973, this period, which saw tensions between Libya and Egypt.
The third phase examines relations from January 1974 until October 1977, when increasing tension between the two countries that had started with the Egypt-Israel peace negotiations over Sinai in January 1974, led ultimately to a limited war between Libya and Egypt in April-May 1977.
The paper then turns to a discussion of the nature of relations during the 1980s, and examines the changing domestic and regional context for Egypt during 1981-1989, which were one of factors case for re-established relations between Libya and Egypt in 1989.
Because that Libya was starting to rethink its regional policy at that time, and this was characterised by the gradual dismissal of the ideological element of its foreign policy that had previously guided both domestic and international policy.
