Abstract EN

This study explores the relationship between overexcitability and Perfectionism as well as identifying the differences between gifted and normal students in these two variables, and identifying the differences based on gender and educational level among gifted students.

The study was implemented in the second semester1439 H.

The study sample included (780) students ; among which (390) gifted students enrolled in gifted student classes in Riyadh city and were selected purposively, and (390) normal students from the same schools were selected randomly.

The study used two tools.

The overexcitability questionnaire-two (OEQII) and the multidimensional perfectionism scale after ensuring its validity and reliability.

Results indicated a statistically significant positive relationship between over-excitability and perfectionism.

The results, also, showed higher scores for gifted students compared to normal students in both overall and sub dimensions.

Females scored higher in the overall overexcitability as well as emotional, sensual, and imaginational over-excitability.

Males scored higher in the overall perfectionism and all its sub dimensions.

Elementary school students scored higher than middle and high school students on the psychomotor dimension.

Middle school students scored higher on both Imaginational and emotional dimensions.

The study recommends using over-excitability measurement tools to discover gifted students as it showed effectiveness in distinguishing between gifted and normal students.
