Abstract EN

This study aims at revealing the origins of the Arab novel, highlighting the history of this novel and its relation with the modern novel, in addition to showing how the Arab novel deals with its cultural and historical heritage.

The study used the analytical narrative approach, and reached important conclusions: The Arabic novel represents a historical extension of the ancient Arabic proverbiage on one hand, and an extension of the Western novel as it is now on the other, and has benefited from the ancient Arab cultural and historical heritage in its narrative.

But the novel employed narrative techniques and tools in the modern novel, and it recycled the cultural heritage and old stories into a modern mold, without falling into a match trap with the old, and maintaining clear differences about it.
