Abstract EN

This study investigated the roles of academic department chairs based on knowledge production in Saudi public universities.

this study is a descriptive survey research design.

the questionnaire was used to collect the data which consisted of (30) items divided into three dimensions: planning (10) items, knowledge production processes (11) items, and knowledge publishing and distributing (9) items.

the participants of this study were (396) faculty members.

the data were collected during the school year of 2019-2020.

to analyze the data, the means, standard deviations, t test for independent samples, one way anova, and shefffe were used.

the study revealed that the overall mean scores of the importance of the roles of academic department chairs based on knowledge production in Saudi public universities was classified “high” (m=2.68).

in addition, overall mean score of the degree to which academic department chairs practice these roles based on knowledge production in Saudi public universities was classified “moderate” (m=1.88).

the study found that there were statistically significant differences between groups with different gender and experience regarding the importance of the roles of academic department chairs based on knowledge production.

also, there were no statistically significant differences between groups with different gender and experience regarding the degree to which academic department chairs practice these roles based on knowledge production.
