Abstract EN

This study aims to assess the possibility of establishing cement industry in Duhok governorate according to the approach of the Spatial analysis in (GIS) to set up the best model of Location appropriate for establishing it.

The problem of the study lies in the fact that the governorate has great potentiality whether (natural or human) to found such an industry provided that it is exploited scientifically.

To achieve the aim of the study, it is hypothesized that there are more than one location for this industry according to the available potentiality.

The study consists of two sections.

The first one focuses on assessing the available potentiality to establish this industry in the governorate and the theoretical bases of the techniques used.

The second one is concerned with the ways of using the techniques of Spatial analysis in geographic information systems to create a form of a appropriateness represented by identifying the criteria and analysis.

It also deals with assessing the model and specifying the alternative locations of cement industry.

The study concludes that the southern and south-western parts of the governorate are more appropriate for establishing it and that there are five alternative locations to identify the site of the factory.
