Abstract EN

The study was carried out to determine whether surgical normalisa- tion of abnormal appearance, would improve significantly the psycho- social functioning of patients suffering from this disorder.

An important sample of Plastic surgery patients was identified, and was assessed both before and after surgery - clinical as well as psychosocial data were collected - the results obtained clearly showed that surgical normalisation of appearance, alleviates Psychological distress and improves Psychosocial fonctioning.

The implications of these results both for theory and therappy were briefly discussed.
