There are a several cases of seizure in Algerian ports, which led us to question the reason for these many claims and to stand at the effectiveness of the provisions governing them.

we will study the general rules governing preventive seizure of ships by defining the concept of both seizure and vessel, the characteristics of seizure and the terms of his application conditions with Algerian legislation comparing him to international treaties.

then we will mention the procedures for its application.

despite the shortcomings of the maritime laws in the field of preventive seizure of ships, we have noticed their effectiveness in the field proved by the court cases that ended with the payment of maritime debts, for which provisional seizures of ships.
