Abstract EN

Metonymy is one of the graphic methods that Abu Tammam employed in his poetry, and this study came under the title “Metonymy in Abu Tammam’s poetry between clarity and complexity”.

And the aim of it is to research the Metonymical style in Abu Tammam’s poetry, by explaining it and identifying its places in his poetry.

Before that, we deal with the definition of Metonymy, its aesthetics and its art from perspective of ancient critics and their stance on ambiguous Metonymy.

The researcher believes that the appropriate approach for this study is the analytical descriptive method.

One of the results of this study was that the Metonymy in Abu Tammam’s poetry varied its formulas between the Metonymies preserved from the relics and Knowledge he had access to and the Metonymies stemming from his statement, in which he called on the recipient to exert effort and deliberation to reach their meaning.
