Abstract EN
Objective : To elucidate the background for the development of endometrial carcinoma in Jordanian women.
Methods : We studied the risk factors for endometrial carcinoma in a hospital-based, case-control study conducted at King Hussein Medical Center, Amman-Jordan, from 1992 to 1997 in 48 female subjects with endometrial cancer and 240 controls.
The association between the risk factors and the clinicopathological features of endometrial cancer was also investigated.
Results : In age-adjusted analyses, the risk of endometrial cancer was significantly higher among nulli gravidity [odds ratio (OR) = 5.00], nulliparity (OR = 4.01), diabetes mellitus (OR = 3.03), obesity [body mass index (BMI > 30.5, OR = 2.63), overweight (BMI of 24.5 to 30.5 OR = 1.85], andhypertension (OR = 1.63).
Conclusion : This study showed that Jordanian women had the same risk factors for endometrial cancer as those reported in western countries.
