This paper focuses on the relationship between ‘Postmodernism’ and ‘Modernism’, the characteristics of both of them and their philosophical extensions.

Postmodernism's relation to Democracy, History, Feminism, Romanticism, Realism, Classicism, Structuralism, Post-structuralism, and Politics, is extensively investigated.

The characteristics of the postmodern novel are likewise highlighted.

Postmodernism is really a wide - range term that can be applied to various disciplines such as literature, architecture, art, music, films, fiction, culture and literary criticism.

It does not really refer to a period or a movement.

It can be found in past, modern and contemporary works.

Postmodernism has a desire to make use of the modern and at the same time supports the classical forms of the past.

Many critics think that it is a part of Modernism and others believe that it only opposes it.

Actually, the relation between them is not completely negative.

Historically, Postmodernism is limited in the period from 1939 to 1989.

However, some critics think that it has no end.
