Abstract EN

The Sâwa’if and the Shâwati were seasonal campaigns directed by the Muslims to border areas in order to skirmish their enemies.

These campaigns had been more regular on the Islamic –byzantine borders as the Byzantine threat persisted and it required attention on this front starting from the conquest of Syria.

This study aims to highlight the notion's development of the sawaif and the shawati as well as the objectives behind their organization.It also displays the most prominent campaigns directed to the confines by the Umayyads during their rule, thus determining the military results they achieved.

Furthermore, our research intends to elucidate the improvements and additions introduced to the sawaif and shawati by the Umayyads within the policy they set to protect the borders generally and the borders of Syria-the center of their Caliphate particularly.
