Abstract EN

One hundered day old cockerel chicks were randomly divided into two groups A and B of fifty chicks each and each group was brooded with electrical bulb and charcoal brooder respectively for three weeks.

Blood samples and organs such as liver and lung were collected at day 14 and 28 for haematological and histopathological analysis.

Intestinal contents were equally collected at day 1, 14 and 28 for intestinal bacterial load analysis.

Results show hypoxia and stress in chicks brooded with charcoal brooder.

Therefore, charcoal brooding contributed to early health challenges in chicks used for this study.
