of the most important pragmatic contributions in the field of communication and conversation paul grice researched in the so-called cooperative principle, which has remained a prominent contribution to pragmatic studies.

This principle which contains four axioms was written by grice to establish a communication framework based on cooperation between the speakers in order to reach a successful conversation.

Not far from paul grice the French researcher robin lakoff is researching another principle, the politeness principle which she established mainly on the cooperative principle.

Through this study we want to search for the elements of the politeness principle in the poem of almunfarja by ibn alnahhawi (433/513) based on the pragmatic analysis of the poem according to the sayings of grice and lakoff.
