Abstract EN

The aim of this study is to highlight some of the economic and scientific aspects and the civilizational role of the Touat region in southern Algeria during the eleventh century AH, through the pilgrimage trip of Ben Melih from Marrakesh, Morocco to Mecca in (1440 AH / 1630 CE) in a period of nine months and seven days.

He crossed a distance of 8320 km, especially since the region was a meeting and a crossing point for commercial and pilgrimage caravans coming from various African and Arab towns.

This trip provided us a clear picture of the living conditions of the inhabitants, the abundance and the quality of the agricultural production, pastures and wells, the hospitality of the pilgrims 'delegations, and the distance between Touat and other Arab and African cities, and the main roads between Touat and Makkah.

The trip also conveyed to us some of the interest of the region's inhabitants in science and scholars, one of the most important countries through which the passengers have passed, is the town of Bani Arkan in T'sabit, al-Daghamsheh and Iqastan in Tadakkat
