English Abstract

The medina of Tlemcen with its traditional historic center still retains traces of the city’s glorious past, it is the witness of the successive sequence of different civilizations each one leaving an imprint without compromising the homogeneity of the urban fabric and constructions.

the first important architectural transformation in the intramural area of the medina dates from the colonial period ; the French as soon as they settled in Tlemcen in 1842 they proceeded with the demolition of a number of traditional houses which were adapted to local culture, in order to build new streets with new buildings and equipment’s as well as colonial houses and apartments.

today, a large number of these apartments’ buildings which now belong to the urban landscape of Tlemcen and to its memory have been transformed and abandoned and even demolished.

the objective of this contribution is to reveal this heritage and its wealth through the most representative Tlemcen apartment buildings, this endangered heritage.

French Abstract

La médina de Tlemcen qui est également son centre historique traditionnel garde toujours des traces du passé glorieux de la ville.

elle est le témoin de la succession de différentes civilisations, chacune laissant une empreinte sans pour autant porter atteinte à l'homogénéité du tissu urbain et des constructions.

les premières transformations architecturales d'importance dans la zone intramuros de la médina datent de la période coloniale.

les français dès leur installation à Tlemcen en 1842 ont procédé à la démolition d'un certain nombre de maisons traditionnelles dites à patio adaptées à la culture locale afin de percer de nouvelles rues et y construire, de nouveaux bâtiments, des équipements, des maisons coloniales et des immeubles de rapport.

aujourd'hui, un grand nombre de ces immeubles de rapport qui appartient désormais au paysage urbain de Tlemcen et à sa mémoire a été transformé, abandonné et même démoli.

l'objet de cette contribution est de révéler ce patrimoine et sa richesse à travers les immeubles de rapport de Tlemcen les plus représentatifs de cet héritage en péril.
