English Abstract
Lighting represents a significant part of building and street energy use.
A massive component of the energy is spent in illuminating the public buildings and street lighting systems.
As the energy costs increase day after day, energy savings in a lighting system can significantly reduce overall energy consumption.
Choosing the appropriate lighting and control system is a critical factor for achieving a significant reduction in energy consumption and reducing CO2 emissions.
In this study, a survey was conducted for lighting users from government employment to gather their opinions regarding the lighting system inside and outside the buildings and the need to upgrade the lighting system in 12 Public Buildings and five Main Street between cities.
Just 19.6% of the respondents are satisfied with the lighting system in public buildings, and 14.1% are satisfied with the lighting system in main streets.
This represents a strong motivation that the lighting system needs to be upgraded.
Furthermore, this lighting system was discussed and analyzed.
Significant savings can be achieved by replacing the lighting equipment with more efficient bulbs and fixtures.
For example, LED lamps to apply building and street management systems, using a control system of motion and light sensors.
Moreover, a solar energy system has been designed to cover the annual energy consumption of the proposed lighting system in Public Buildings.
The results showed that the annual energy savings rate of the proposed lighting system is 61.6% with annual saving of 372,161 JD in 3 health care buildings, and 65% in 5 main streets with annual saving of 484,261 JD.
The results showed significant saving in 3 health care buildings and 5 main streets.
