Abstract EN

This article aims to explore the role of school friendship among the 3rd secondary school grade students in Abu Dhabi private schools.

The study employs the descriptive survey approach and the questionnaire for collecting information.

The study sample consists of 1101 students from different curriculum: United Arab Emirates (UAE) curricula, American curricula, and Cambridge curricula.

The results of this study confirm that school friendship plays a remarkable role in promoting national belonging, where no significant statistical differences were found among students neither based on gender, nor grade level.

However, regarding curriculum, significant statistical differences were found in favor of UAE curricula.

Based on the results of this study, a set of recommendations has been provided including; encouraging students to develop and maintain positive relationships with other students in schools and avoid bad friendship, considering the characteristics and needs of the secondary education stage when making relevant policies, and guardedly boosting the national agenda, considering grade level and age, by encouraging students to participate in education activities as well as in national and religious occasions.
