Cognitive distortions and its relation to violence in Shaqra university students

Abstract EN

This étudy aimed at investigating the correlation re- lationship between cognitive distortions and violence among undergraduate university Students in College of Science and hu- manities, University of Shaqra in Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, it explored the Statistical significances of the differences between male and female students in cognitive distortions and violence.

The descriptive analytical method was adopted in the present Study.

Two instruments were utilized to collect data namely, cog- nitive distortions scale and youth violence scale were prepared by the researcher..

The main sample consisted of 200 undergrad- uate students selected through a random sampling technique.

Al- though three dimensions were not correlated to violence, overall results indicated that significant association was found between cognitive distortions and violence in youth.

Insignificant differ- ences were detected between male and female Qudents in cogni- tive distortions except for the dimension entitled "Jumping to the results".

Results revealed significant differences between males and females in physical violence and violation of sftandards fa- voring males.
