Abstract EN

This study aimed to enhance the provisioning and sustainability of safe drinking water, quantitatively and qualitatively, to the Sudan’s urban centers by taking Omdurman town as an example.

The idea behind this study was presented within the priorities for the Sudan’s urban residents that were recommended in the United Nations’ Third Conference of Housing and Sustainable Urban Development in 2016.

There was about 44% of the Sudan’s population has inadequate access to safe drinking water and were subjected to water - related diseases according to the field survey of water and environmental correctness for the year 2014.

This study concerned with provisioning of adequate and safe drinking water with special concern to Omdurman town.

Results depicted that, there was inadequate water provisioning, quantitatively and qualitatively, and there was a declining of the daily per capita consumption of water although there was a progress achieved in increasing production and the registering of precise numbers of consumers, beside the implementation of some measures to reduce irrational water consumption.

There were great variations in consumption levels and in families’ behaviors towards conserving and keeping of water in Omdurman town.

The study recommended that, a comprehensive managerial view and an enthusiastic endeavor for provisioning of correct and updated data for water production, distribution, and consumption are required to guarantee adequate availability and sustainability of drinking water in Omdurman town.

It was recommended also for enhancing community awareness towards its responsibility to conserve water for the coming generations.
