In the Wolof society, the social reality is founded, most often, through the symbolic network of the culture that shapes the lives of people.
However, most studies related to pottery in Africa pay a special focus on the technical and archeological aspects while obscuring its intangible heritage.
Thus, this study seeks to elucidate the usage of pottery in family ceremonies and its symbolism in the Wolof-Senegal region The observation and the investigation surveys constitute the main tools administered to potters to collect the social and cultural practices bequeathed by their ancestors.
These practices represent their values, beliefs, knowledge and traditions in perpetual evolution.

Dans la société wolof, la réalité sociale est fondée souvent à travers le réseau symbolique de la culture qui façonne la vie des individus.
Cependant en Afrique, la plupart des études concernant la poterie mettent en exergue les aspects techniques et ethnoarchéologiques tout en occultant son patrimoine immatériel.
Ainsi, cette étude cherche à collecter l'usage de la poterie dans les cérémonies familiales et sa symbolique mystique dans la région de Wolof – Sénégal.
En plus, les techniques utilisées, principalement qualitatives privilégient l'observation et l'enquête par entretien.
L'étude révèle la réalisation et la pérennisation de pratiques sociales et culturelles léguées par leurs ancêtres.
Ces pratiques symbolisent une expression de leurs valeurs, croyances, savoirs, et traditions en perpétuelle évolution.
In Wolof society, social reality is often founded through the symbolic network of culture that shapes people's lives, but in Africa, most studies of pottery emphasize the technical and ethno archaeological aspects while obscuring its intangible heritage.
Thus, this study seeks to collect the use of pottery in family ceremonies and its mystical symbolism in the Wolof-Senegal region.
In addition, the techniques used, which are mainly qualitative, favor observation and investigation by interview.
The study reveals the realization and perpetuation of social and cultural practices bequeathed by their ancestors.
These practices symbolize an expression of their values, beliefs, knowledge, and traditions in perpetual evolution.
